【釋義】 「應」的本義是承諾、回響、接應。「應」與「雁」字有著深厚的淵源關係，「應」的古文即為「雁」。大雁飛行時排隊整齊，總有一隻領隊的老雁在高空中鳴叫，向後方的雁群打招呼，彼此一一回應並不斷前進，以防有大雁掉隊。由此才引申出「應」的字義。應人應是以獵殺大雁為食、為生的氏族。他們以大雁作為自己氏族的原始圖騰，並以此命名族名與族徽，最終發展為國家，形成了應姓。
